Wherefore art thou, tween boy novels?

One of my sister’s dear friends is a Young Adult librarian (::jealous::) and one of this friend’s favorite rants is the dearth of good books for the tween boy set. You know – beyond the Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings series. And so it’s become a hobby for our circle to gather these books as we find them and send word across the land that. These books do exist…if you know where to look and you don’t mind going through a lot of clunkers first. Lucky for you (wait for it) – I’ve got a list for that.

  • Boy 21 – Matthew Quick
  • Liar and Spy – Rebecca Stead
  • The Maze Runner series – James Dashner
  • The Magicians – Lev Grossman
  • The Invention of Hugo Cabret – Brian Selznick
  • Divergent series – Veronica Roth
  • The Giver series – Lois Lowry
  • Thirteen Reasons Why – Jay Asher (for the older end of the tween set)
  • Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – Ransom Riggs
  • 882 1/2 Amazing Answers to Your Questions about the Titanic – Hugh Brewster (nf)
  • Will Grayson, Will Grayson – John Green and David Levithan
  • The Boy in the Striped Pajamas – by John Boyne
  • Stargirl – Jerry Spinelli
  • The Hunger Games trilogy – Suzanne Collins
  • The Book of Lost Things – John Connolly
  • Percy Jackson series – Rick Riordan
  • The Golden Compass series – Philip Pullman
  • The Mysterious Benedict Society series – Trenton Lee Stewart
